In fiscal year 2011-12, clothing exports reached US $12 billion 145 million in February, an increase of 8.9% over the same period last year.

In February 2012, exports increased by 1.5% over the same period last year.

According to the rupee calculation, exports in February 2012 increased by 9.8% over the same period last year.


In the last fiscal year, exports increased by 4.2% over the 2009-10 year, and total exports amounted to US $11 billion 163 million in the 2010-11 months of April, -3.


American apparel imports


In January 2012, imports of clothing in the United States increased by 9.4% over the same period last year, reaching US $6 billion 700 million.


Over the same period, imports of clothing from India increased by 2% to $308 million 600 thousand, compared with $328 million in January 2011.

In January 2012, the US imports from China increased by 8.3% over the same period last year. The US imports from all other major suppliers, such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Mexico, increased by 15.4%, 17%, 14.3%, and 11.8% respectively over the same period last year.

Among the top six suppliers in the United States, Indonesia grew the largest year-on-year.


EU clothing imports


In 2011, the EU's clothing imports reached $94 billion 317 million, an increase of 14% over the same period last year.

India's exports to the European Union in 2011 reached 6 billion 462 million US dollars, an increase of 15.4%.


In 2011, Bangladesh increased the highest (35.34%) in EU imports, followed by India (15.45%), China (9.71%) and Turkey (9.44%).

Compared with the same month last year, all five major supply countries declined in the EU's imports in December 2011. The biggest decline was India, followed by Turkey.

Canadian apparel imports


From January 2011 to December, Canada imported garments from India for 313 million 700 thousand US dollars, an increase of 14.2% over the same period last year.

Canada's global clothing imports in January 2011 -12 were $8 billion 677 million 100 thousand, up 15% from -12 in January 2010.


China, Bangladesh, Kampuchea, the United States, Vietnam and India are the top suppliers of clothing in Canada.

Among these top suppliers, Bangladesh, Kampuchea, China, the United States, Vietnam and India increased their exports to Canada by 10%, 32.9%, 49.6%, 5.9%, 29.3% and 14.2% in January 2011, respectively, in -6 months.


In January 2011 -12, India clothing exports to Canada amounted to US $313 million 700 thousand, an increase of 14.2% over the same period last year.

Canada's global imports of clothing amounted to US $8 billion 677 million 100 thousand in 2011, an increase of 15.1% over 2010.
